Q: Where is the source code ? A: In the nextick.jar file.

Q: Why NexTick is not under SVN ? A: Internally we are using SVN but since we have other sub-projects which are not open source yet and we don't want to store part of the source code in one SVN and the other part in another SVN, we've decided for the moment to use one private SVN. This will change soon :-).

Next Release Plans ::

Data Feeds for NexTick ::

Nextick can be used for analyzing both the long term and short term performance of the stocks. For the long-term, we are using the historical values from Yahoo (downloaded and cached on the local machine) while for the short-term values, we are using OpenTick feed. OpenTick provides both real-time [paied subscription] and delayed stock prices [free subscription].

Our aim is to use the CHEAPEST available data feeds and build a user interface around them. Currently for having the NexTick functioning in real-time, you need to buy the following two products for the sum of $2 per month!

For getting access to real-time market data, you need to buy the following two products from OpenTick:

  • NASDAQ Level I ($1.00/month)
  • NYSE ($1.00/month)

Other sources: currently for plotting the 30 days chart we are using StockCharts.com (as their charts look cool, but later we may change this) and for real-time Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average indices, we are using http://finance.yahoo.com (because these feeds are not provided in the aforementioned opentick products).

Using NexTick ::

For adding/removing the symbols to be monitored by NexTick, edit the symbols.csv in the NexTick's installation path (you have to restart NexTick to have the changes applied).

For connecting to OpenTick, click on the Market Menu >> Connect to OpenTick on the top.

For having details on the symbols, simply double click on the symbol.

For getting the news for a given symbol, right click on the symbol name and choose the news source.

Q: Can I add symbols while NexTick is running? A: No.

Q: Do I need OpenTick account to use NexTick? A: If you want to analyze the historical prices, you don't need an OpenTick account, if you want to have access to real-time ticks, you need an OpenTick account.

Technical Analysis ::

As we are fans of MACD, ADX, Simple Moving Average (SMA) and the W%R, we have added only these types of technical analysis to the NexTick.

Candle stick pattern identification is (only) included in the intraday charts.

Stock Price Alerts ::

You can receive alerts (SMS/Email) once the price of a security satisfies a certain condition. Simply right clicking on the security and click on "Set Alert on ...".

Q: Do I get repetitive alerts for a single security once the condition satisfied ? A: No, once the condition the alert condition satisfied, the alert will be issued and the actual alert become inactive.

Setup SMS and EMail Notification ::

You can set Alerts on any security and get SMS and/or EMail notification from NexTick. To do so, you need to create a GMail account here. Once you have you account, go to Google calendar and login using your Google account. In order to use this service, you'll first need to register your cell phone number in your Google Calendar account. You can do this under "Settings" > "Mobile Setup."

Once you have you mobile phone verified by Google, in NexTick click on the Alerts Window and in menus click on Login To Google.

Q: Why are we using Google Calendar for sending SMS? A: Because this is the only free SMS provider I could find.

Q: Is there any delay associate with SMS notification? A: The even is scheduled 7 minutes from now with a reminder scheduled 5 minutes before the event, thus expect around 2 minutes delay.

Q: Shall I use my own Google account for the SMS notification? A: It is highly recommended you create a separate account for NexTick.
